German Pinscher Dog Breed Information Guide | German Pinscher Puppies For Sale

The German Pinscher is an elegant breed
that is often mistaken for a young Doberman because of the physical
resemblance. Still fairly rare in North America, the breed originated in
Germany, and was first accepted for registration there in 1879. Used to
protect the home and to control rodents and other vermin, the German
Pinscher population never reached large numbers. By the 1950's, the
breed was facing extinction, but it's numbers are steadily increasing
thanks to the efforts of breed enthusiasts in Europe and North America.
These gorgeous, sleek, muscular dogs stand from 17 to 20 inches at the
shoulder. The short, shiny coat comes in a range of colors including
black and tan, and browns ranging from chocolate to red. Grooming
requirements for this breed are minimal, but they do need plenty of
daily exercise and they thrive on human companionship. These sensitive,
highly intelligent dogs are very loyal and devoted to their families,
but can be quite wary of strangers. Early and consistent obedience
training is recommended.
